Since the Town of Mansfield’s incorporation in 1702, agriculture has played a large role in the history and development of the town.  With one of Connecticut’s largest dairies, an active farming community, and a popular farmers market, agriculture continues to define Mansfield.  The open spaces and working farms help preserve the rural nature of the Town, which attracts visitors and new residents alike.

The Town of Mansfield is committed to preserving and encouraging local agricultural businesses.  During the development of the Mansfield Tomorrow Plan of Conservation and Development Mansfield residents identified sustaining and growing Mansfield’s agricultural sector as a key priority.

Agriculture Committee

The Agriculture Committee is an active group of appointed citizens who advises the Town Council and other bodies, such as the Planning and Zoning Commission, on matters related to preserving farmland and agricultural activity in Mansfield.  The Committee engages in several outreach efforts, including the annual publication of the Mansfield Grown Brochure.  A presentation made to the Town Council in 2010 details many of the committee's accomplishments and future goals and objectives.

Storrs Farmers Market

Storrs Farmers Market has been providing the greater Mansfield community with a convenient source of fresh, local produce, meats, dairy, and more since 1994. The Market is open from 3:00—6:00 pm, May through November on the front lawn of the Mansfield Town Hall, within walking distance of the Mansfield Community Center, several neighborhoods, the UConn campus, and Storrs Center.  The Market is a producer-only market and all items sold there are “CT Grown.”
Storrs Farmers Market is open year-round.  The Winter Market is open twice a month from December through April at the Mansfield Public Library.
